One of the positives many families have experienced during the pandemic is discovering the benefits of a virtual school. Here are five major benefits that parents and students appreciate.
Combination of Structure and Freedom
Personalized support means you and your child have the resources needed to experience the benefits of a virtual school for a deeper learning experience. There is a careful balancing act between freedom and support and flexibility and accountability. WVL staff have mastered this balance and helps you assist your student in the learning process.
Virtual, Independent and Blended Pathways
Students learn in a variety of ways. We recognize this at WVL and provide three pathways for middle and high school students to explore: virtual, independent, and blended.
- Virtual Pathway – Your student will have the ability to move through lessons in a traditional schedule. Designated class times, core subject classes, and meetings with teachers provide students with structure and more academic support.
- Independent Pathway – Some students prefer this pathway because it allows them to move faster than regular teacher-paced classes. Teachers regularly assess students and provide feedback. They are handy when a student gets stuck and needs guidance. This pathway offers more freedom and flexibility to students.
- Blended Pathway – For the student who needs help in a subject area or two and excels in one or more areas, the blended pathway offers the opportunity to receive the support needed while at the same time providing the student with the option to move faster in stronger subjects. Teachers regularly check in with the students to ensure they are on target.
One of the benefits of a virtual school is the opportunity to choose your student’s best route for learning.
College/Career Planning
It is easy for students to slip through the cracks at crowded in-person schools. As a result, college and career planning often leave a lot to be desired. In many cases, students are on their own to discover the best opportunities available to them. Virtual schools like WVL offer personalized counseling for these important decisions.
Advanced and AP Courses
Students can attend these classes in regular school and feel left out of the mainstream. With virtual learning, they can really get involved in the subject and explore it thoroughly. Students also have the teacher’s undivided attention when they need it. Advanced Placement courses prepare students for college. Students are also allowed to receive college credit for classes.
Work At Your Own Pace
It is easy for students to get left behind. The educational machine marches forward in brick and mortar schools. Virtual learning provides a space for students to learn at their own pace. This means that all students have a chance to learn about different subjects as opposed to gulping down information that will soon be lost.
